Today we have been busy making a vegetable curry. We thought carefully about the method, the equipment we might need and the ingredients before heading to the cafe to get cooking!
Firstly we washed and prepared the vegetables. We peeled and sliced the carrots, chopped the celery and diced the onion.
After that, we heated the pans with some oil before adding in the onion, garlic and ginger to gently cook. Next we added in the curry powder, stock and chopped tomatoes to begin making the sauce.
Then we added the vegetables including peas to the sauce and left it to simmer for about 20 minutes until the vegetables had softened.
Lastly, we served it with rice and tasted it. As you can see lot’s of happy faces enjoying the curry. It went down a treat!
As scientists we predicted which mini beasts we might see outside in Autumn. We thought carefully about their habitat before heading outside to make Bug Hotels using natural materials. We plan on revisiting our Bug Hotels to find out if we attracted any mini beasts.
What an AMAZING fortnight we have had in the Art Studio!
We have been looking at the seasons and weather in the United Kingdom and India. We learnt that the United Kingdom has four seasons and India has SIX! We focused specifically on the Monsoon season. Miss Patchett worked with the children to create a dance to represent the strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Each day we checked the weather forecast in both Leeds and Kolkata, we found out that rainfall is depicted by blues and temperature by reds. This is when we discovered that India is wetter and warmer than the United Kingdom. We recorded this in our paintings.
Together we looked at how symbols are used to show the different types of weather experienced. This is when we were introduced to the weather ‘sleet’ and understood the term ‘intervals’ when used with sunny. Each child then created their own symbols. These designs were then made into batik using hot wax and dye.
We then produced an impressive skyline using collaborative collages of buildings found in Kolkata. We carefully sketched the buildings using pencil making sure we captured the key features such as arches, spires and domes.
Once our observational drawings were complete we used maker pens and oil pastels in the colours of the Indian flag to enhance the details.
We worked collaboratively to organise everybody’s drawing to create the Kolkata skyline.
And I am sure you will agree, the result was incredible!
Lastly, a huge thank you to everybody who joined our celebration. It really was a wonderful afternoon showcasing all of 2Ds hard work.
Thank you to everyone that joined us today for our Art celebration it was great to share our learning with so many people. A special thanks to York Bird of Prey Centre for bringing in some very special guests – what a fantastic surprise! A wonderful end to the term, you should all be very proud of yourselves.
In music we listened to a piece of music that was by an Italian man called Rossini in 1825. Rossini was famous for writing opera and composed a piece called The Cat Duet. We used this to create our own piece using the sounds of owls.
Our time in the Art Studio has come to an end and what a wonderful week we have had! Without giving too much away here is a sneak peak of some of the things we have been up. It would be great if you could join our celebration on April 1st.
