To consolidate our recent Maths learning all about position and direction, we used the Beebot programme on the Ipads in our computing lesson today. We used the forwards, backwards, left and right buttons to move the Beebot to different places.

This afternoon we went on a walk around school to identify things that we found interesting or beautiful. We did some observation drawings with labels and then discussed or thoughts.

We decided to find out the most popular ice cream flavour in Year 2. First of all, we needed to collect our data. After deciding on some possible flavours, we asked each other which their favourite is. We recorded our findings in the form of a tally chart, remembering the golden rule of putting a diagonal line through for number five.

After collecting the data, we then used it to create a bar chart. Using this, we were able to identify the most popular and least popular ice cream flavours.

Our new text in English is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and while we didn’t have any unusual beans we did have some sunflower seeds so this afternoon we have been busy planting.

Today we have looked at some of the work of artist and botanist James Bolton. We began by noticing key features and then had a go at sketching the painting.

We enjoyed our computing lessons this half term where we used the program J2Data. We created our own pictograms and bar charts after collecting the data and recording it in the form of a tally chart.

Rob Ryan is an artist that specialises in paper cutting. Today we looked at how we could use paper in different ways to create a scene from The Owl and the Pussycat.

To begin with we manipulated paper by scrunching, folding and snipping it.

After that we used the techniques we had learnt to create a picture in the style of Rob Ryan’s work.

For Science Week this year we set the challenge of collecting and comparing finger prints to see if you can identify an patterns.

It’s less than a week until World Book Day and as attendance champions in Year 2 last half term we were lucky enough to take part in a workshop led by West End in Schools.

The book we brought to life was The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl. The children did an amazing job of retelling the story of a very nasty, very greedy crocodile!
